Job Title: Process Engineer III

Reports To:  Quality and Engineering Manager

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

  • Establishes optimum molding processes through machine, mold and process capability studies.
  • Assumes a leadership role in improving productivity and reducing scrap.
  • Assists in the selection and qualification of new thermoplastic materials and suppliers.
  • Establishes process controls and maintaining certified molding processes. Uses Design of Experiments to troubleshoot and optimize processes.
  • Generates standard work instructions, setups and operational parameters resulting in defect free work.
  • Qualifies new molds at suppliers and in the plants, assuring that processes are communicated to all facilities that may run tools of the same type.
  • Initiates problem-solving and process enhancement projects and direct staff to support Quality, R&D, and Production goals both at plant and corporate level.
  • Develops and implement a uniform methodology for process certification.
  • Assists in the development of process engineering talent at the plant level.
  • Continuous improvement of overall molding operations.
  • Acts as the facilitator for corporate initiatives for molding process and mold improvements.

Qualifications/General Summary Statement

 

  • 4 Year Engineering degree with plastics background (3-5 years) or an equivalent degree with heavy concentration in plastics engineering/technology required.
    • Familiarity with the chemical and mechanical properties of various thermoplastic materials and their affect on the molding process and part performance.
    • At least 10 years of hands on experience in injection molding in process engineering related activities.  Extrusion/compression molding experience also desirable.
    • Must be familiar with statistical process optimization techniques, such as Design of Experiments, process capability studies, etc.   Six Sigma Green or Black Belt preferred.
    • Must be able to prioritize work and accomplish concurrent tasks within their desired timelines.
    • Must be able to identify and assess improvement opportunities beyond assigned tasks.
    • Must have excellent project management skills including evaluation, development and implementation of appropriate methodology to improve outgoing quality and manufacturing productivity. 
    • Computer literacy (Excel, Word, CAD drawing viewers) required.  Must be able to read and interpret mold and part engineering drawings.
    • Must be able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization.
    • Must be a hands-on, self-directed, focused individual.
    • Must be able to meet deadlines, follow through on commitments, and be persuasive.

     

    Essential Physical Requirements

    • Ability to operate a keyboard for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to stand for extended periods of time while working on the machines.
    • Vision corrected to 20/30 for extensive creation and interpretation of spreadsheets and charts.
    • Must be able to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 30 lbs.
