New Directors Appointed to Portola's Board
SAN JOSE, CA — April 29, 2003 - Jack Watts,
CEO and James Taylor, President and COO of Portola Packaging,
Inc., announced today the addition of Mr. Martin Imbler and Mr.
Robert Egan to the Portola Board of Directors. Mr. Egan replaces
Mr. Chris Behrens who resigned from the Board in April. Mr. Imbler
is very knowledgeable about Portola, as he was previously on Portola’s
Board from 1990 to 1998.
Mr. Imbler is currently Chairman and cofounder of Riverbend Capital
Resources Corporation. Prior to founding Riverbend in 2002, Mr.
Imbler was President and CEO of Berry Plastics Corporation, a
position he held from 1991 until 2002. Berry Plastics is a leading
manufacturer of proprietary plastic packaging, serving a variety
of markets in the United States and abroad. From 1987 to 1991,
Mr. Imbler was President and CEO of Risdon Corporation, a $120
million manufacturer of metal and plastic packaging for the cosmetics
industry. From 1973 to 1987, he held various executive positions
with American Can Company, Conrail, Gulf Oil and The Boston Consulting
Group. Previously, he was a Captain in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Imbler received two B.S. degrees from the University of Washington
in 1970 and his M.B.A. with High Distinction in 1973 from the
Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, where he was
an Edward Tuck Scholar.
Mr. Egan is a Partner of JP Morgan Entertainment Partners and
a Senior Advisor to JPMorgan Partners. JP Morgan Partners is one
of the largest private equity funds in the world with over $24
billion under management. Previous to JPMEP, Mr. Egan was the
President of Hudson River Capital LLC, a private equity fund which
focused on investments in middle market companies. Prior to Hudson,
Mr. Egan was a Principal and founding member of Chase Capital,
a predecessor to JPMorgan Partners. In addition, Mr. Egan has
served as a Vice President of The Chase Manhattan Bank’s Merchant
Banking Group.
Mr. Egan holds an M.B.A. with honors from Columbia University
and a B.S. with a concentration in finance from Boston University.
