SAN JOSE, CA—October 5, 2004 -Portola Packaging, Inc. announces the appointment of Michael T. Morefield as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mike will have global responsibility for Portola’s Finance function and will be based in Batavia, Illinois. He begins his duties immediately.

Mike has over 24 years of extensive global experience spanning over 20 countries in all facets of finance, investor relations, management and operations. Most recently, Mike was Vice president, Finance, and Chief Financial Officer of Exelon Services, a subsidiary of the Fortune 50 company, Exelon Inc. He also held Vice President and CFO positions for a number of other companies, including United Plastics Group, Inc., Schmalbach-Lubeca Holdings, Inc. and White Cap. Other finance and administration experience includes senior positions with Toyota Machinery USA and General Binding Corporation.

Mike holds an MBA in Finance from Loyola University, Chicago, and a BA in Accounting from Lewis University in Lockport, Illinois.

Andrea Schry, VP and Controller, and Ara Chakrabarti, Chief Information Officer, will report directly to Mike.

Portola also wants to thank Dennis Berg for his years of dedicated service and many important contributions to the Finance function at Portola. Dennis will assist Mike in the transition to his new responsibilities, and will then leave the company to pursue other interests.
