When you purchase services, equipment and supplies from Portola, we work with you to reduce our collective carbon footprint. In many cases, that means saving you money while we save the environment. For instance, if we provide you with a closure that requires less resin, we can lower your costs while we increase sustainability in three ways:

• We lower the demand for non-renewable petroleum-based resins.
• We reduce carbon emissions by reducing the energy used in production and shipping.
• We reduce the amount of material eventually ending in landfills.

With your approval, we use bulk packaging wherever possible. A gaylord replaces approximately 20 standard cases. That saves about 400 cases for every 3 million closures and all the materials and carbon emissions related to their manufacture, shipping and disposal. Shipping in gaylords eliminates about one in three truckloads. Fewer truckloads means less fuel expended and fewer emissions.
