At Portola, we pool all our creativity on behalf of the environment - because we know this is a fight we all have to win together. We work with our suppliers to seek out renewable materials and to partner on ways to reduce resin usage, as well as to optimize incoming shipping and reduce packaging.
We work internally on waste reduction, taking special care to recycle plastic scrap, packaging and office waste. We also purchase recycled products whenever possible, knowing that recycling has to happen at both ends.
Perhaps most importantly of all, we are in a constant quest to reduce energy consumption. We even merged and relocated two of our manufacturing facilities to a state with abundant, clean hydroelectricity. We are steadily retooling from injection molding to compression molding, a transition that saves 20% to 30% energy consumption. We replace chillers and compressor systems with more efficient models and optimize their usage. We use high efficiency lights and shut them off when they are not in use.
We do everything we can to reduce resource consumption and waste creation. We are reducing our carbon footprint for the good of our children and grandchildren. As a corporate citizen of the world, we recognize our responsibility and embrace it.
